š¬ Decode the Tail: Understanding Your Catās Body Language and Communication
Share
Hello Cat Communicators and KittyGlow Customers!
Cats are masters of non-verbal communication. While their meows are often directed specifically at humans, their true feelingsāfear, happiness, excitement, or aggressionāare displayed through subtle changes in their body posture, ear position, and, most importantly, their tail. Learning to read these signals improves your bond and reduces misunderstandings.
Ā
1. The Tail Tells All
Ā
| Tail Position | Meaning | Interpretation |
| Straight Up, Slight Curl at Tip | Happy, Confident, Friendly | "Hello, I am happy to see you!" (The most positive signal) |
| Puffed Up (Bottle Brush) | Frightened, Angry, Threatened | "I feel huge and dangerous. Back away!" (Fear/Aggression) |
| Swishing Slowly, Side to Side | Contemplative, Slightly Annoyed | "I am thinking, don't interrupt me." (Often right before a pounce) |
| Tucked Under the Body | Submissive, Anxious, Scared | "I feel vulnerable." (Needs reassurance or space) |
| Quick, Twitchy Flicks | Irritated, Agitated | "Stop what you are doing right now!" (Often seen during petting) |
Ā
2. The Ears and Eyes
Ā
-
Ears Forward: Attentive, happy, or curious.
-
Ears Swiveled to the Side: Relaxed, listening to ambient sounds.
-
Ears Pinned Flat Back: Angry, threatened, or preparing to fight/flee. Warning sign!
-
Slow Blink (Cat Kiss): Affectionate and trustworthy. Blink slowly back to show you return the sentiment.
Understanding these signals helps you know when to initiate play (tail up) or when to give them space (ears back, tail twitching).
